LG G-Slate 3D for T-Mobile..... A New Dimension in Tablets !!!

Just yesterday I read the news and I was sad and excited at the same time. Sad because the status I have up on Facebook reads “Enjoying my new iPad so much, can’t get myself to put it down” and is not even three days old. But I guess my intense commitment to the iPad was meant to be short lived, because there is something out there now that made me so much more excited. A certain tech company called LG (Im sure you’ve heard the name) just released in partnership with T-Mobile USA a brand new tablet which I think would give the iPad a run for its money.

Numerous companies in the past made this claim, including Samsung with their Galaxy Tab, Motorola with its Xoom and most recently RIM with its Blackberry Playbook, but for the most part, the iPad has reigned supreme. So what makes me think that a company like LG, which is not very highly appreciated for its Smartphones in the global sense, beat the “iPad King” at its own game?? Well… A New Dimension!!!

The brand new tablet is called “LG G-Slate 3D” and as the name suggests, the highlight is that LG has brought 3D to the world of tablets. Not only does this device let you view content in 3D on its 8.9” 3D LCD screen, it lets you capture 3D images and record 3D video in High Definition!!!

Keeping in mind that if I continue this way, I will have an abundance of exclamation marks highlighting every aspect of the tablet, let’s just do a little head to head comparison with the iPad to see whether it is worth your time and money:

- The G-Slate has already established supremacy in the regard that it is the first good 3D tablet out there, the 8.9” 3D LCD is not much smaller than the 9.7” display on the iPad 2 and to top it off, the G-Slate supports a proper widescreen orientation for better movie watching.

- The G-Slate has three cameras (YES THREE), with two 5MP snappers on the back to aid in 3D photography and 3D video recording and a 2MP front facing camera. The rear cameras come with an LED flash as well. The cameras on the back and the front of the iPad 2 support 0.7MP and VGA resolutions respectively and with no LED flash

- Sure the rear camera on the iPad 2 records 720p HD video but it is trumped by the rear cameras of the G-Slate which shoot 1080p Full HD video in 2D and 720p HD video in 3D

- The processors go head to head with both the iPad 2 and the G-Slate toting 1GHz dual core processors.

- The iPad 2 comes with a choice of 16/32/64 GB internal storage choices, while the G-Slate comes with a standard 32GB storage BUT with the option of an SD Expansion slot to allow for a total of 64GB storage. The accessibility of a removable memory card surely adds a benefit to the G-Slate

- iPad runs Apple’s proprietary iOS operating system with the Apple App Store while the G-Slate comes with a supped up Android 3.0 Honey Comb. The OS choice becomes strictly a matter of preference at this stage, because I simply cannot get into the Android vs iOS debate just yet.

So this is the specs comparison in a nutshell. Without a doubt, there is a lot more to be discussed and I would love to get my hands on the G-Slate so I can do a head-to-head comparison, but that will have to wait just a little bit longer. Heck, I might as well just give in and purchase the G-Slate for myself. Oh and that brings me to the last point, the Price… The G-Slate has 3G capabilities so it would be comparable to the 3G version of the iPad 2. The 32GB version of the iPad 2 retails for $729 and the G-Slate goes for…….
You guessed it, $729 !!!

Therefore not only is the G-Slate a worthy competitor in terms of specs, the price is at par with the iPad as well. And given the added bells and whistles of 3D, Android and a subsidized rate of approximately $500 through T-Mobile in the US, this may very well turn out to be a tablet to look out for. Unless iPad 3 comes with 3D, that would be a whole different ball game yet again. I guess we will just have to wait and see....
