Super Specs….. Super Smartphone!!!

Just a few days back we posted an overview of the various different dual-core Smartphones. More recently, we also posted an overview of a new phone by Sharp with some interesting new features. And today we ran across what could possibly be the most powerful Smartphone currently in production. Now this claim may not stand true for very long considering the pace at which technology progresses but it is as of right now a claim worth making by BSquare.

Yes, BSquare!!! It is very doubtful that too many of our readers would be familiar with the name, but that is the company that is responsible for what is called the Snapdragon MDP MSM8660. Just like the name, the specs of the phone are quite a handful too. So let’s go over them before we get to a small little catch. The phone as the name mentions carries a new breed of Dual-Core Snapdragon processor clocked at 1.5GHz… so if apps can utilize it, that’s a full 3GHz of computing power under the hood!!! This should rival some modern day consumer desktop computers. In addition to the powerhouse of a processor, the phone also houses a brand new Adreno 220 graphics processor. The manufacturer claims that this is supposedly the most powerful mobile chip in town and provides the smoothest platform for 3D gaming and high-definition video processing.

To top it all off, the phone comes with a 13MP camera capable of full HD video recording as well. The other standards include a full 1GB of RAM, 16GB of built-in storage with the capacity to expand with a Micro-SD card slot, Digital Dolby 5.1 support and get this…. 5 Microphones !!! There is some serious active noise cancellation going on with this phone. The screen is a bit small compared to the rest of the specs, coming in only at 3.6” but the phone has a mini HDMI out port. The phone runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread with an aptly tweaked UI to utilize the powerful graphics chip.

Now for the catch…Qualcomm has targeted this phone towards app developers specifically. This means that the powerful hardware is meant to ensure compatibility and performance for newly developed apps that would be running on the Snapdragon processors coming out. Therefore the price is also market specific and the MDP MSM8660 costs a hefty US$ 1350. Don’t expect too many to be available in Pakistan anytime soon as there is hardly any market demand for them and that is a hefty price to pay for a cell phone in any class. But if you see the pattern here, this is just an indicator of things to come in terms of the sheer processing and rendering power the up and coming Smartphones will carry. We are entering an era of powerful mobile computing as we speak!!!
